We are happy to inform you that the 8th ISO Social Responsibility Plenary Meeting contributes to sustainable development through the following initiatives.
The event planning team aims to create an inspiring conference environment by offering the delegates a range of social events. These include afternoon sessions on the art of making Danish rye bread, a reception at the Copenhagen City Hall, a visit to Tivoli, dinner at the castle of Kronborg, and a farewell dinner and jazz concert. We wish you a good health and hope that you will participate in the morning runs around the lakes of Copenhagen and the afternoon breaks with Gotved gymnastics.
Whenever possible, the materials handed out and used at the meeting have a sustainable profile. The staff t-shirts are made from organic and Fairtrade certified cotton (Neutral.com); the pens are made from recycled plastic water bottles; the gift bags are made from recycled truck tarpaulin; the name tag holders are free from PVC and made from environmentally friendly material (PP), and all the paper handed out in the registration kit, used for signage or printing is environmentally friendly (recycled, labelled etc.). In the meeting rooms you will find whiteboards, pens and pads labelled with the Nordic Swan.
The food and beverages served at the reception in the City Hall and at the castle of Kronborg will be organic and/or locally produced, and there will be a selection of food to cater for the needs of the various cultures and tastes. The informal farewell dinner will be organic too and the food served at this dinner will be produced by a socioeconomic company, which spends its surplus on giving drug addicts nutritious and healthy meals. Scandic Copenhagen offers you UTZ-certified organic coffee and a range of organic products for breakfast and coffee breaks. Water will be served in glass jugs and regular tableware will be used in the mentioned dining places.
The international flights of the delegates and their companions have been offset through the Carbon Offset program of the official airline partner Scandinavian Airlines. The money supports three renewable energy projects in China and India. The projects create needed employment and help switch the energy supply from fossil fuel sources to biomass or wind turbines. Moreover, the busses taking us to Kronborg will be climate-friendly busses. We will walk the short distance to the City Hall and to the farewell dinner and concert you can enjoy a ride in electric cars, cycle rickshaws or a climate-friendly bus.
All significant suppliers have been asked to sign a Code of Conduct or make a self-assessment based on a selected number of legal and ethical issues. The Code of Conduct was made using the free online tool, the CSR Compass, developed and hosted by the Danish Commerce & Companies Agency. Where relevant, we have integrated individual sustainability targets in the contracts. Moreover, the event planning team will be engaged in a dialogue with significant suppliers to promote further sustainability within the sphere of influence of the WGSR event in Copenhagen. The official accommodation and venue partner, Scandic Copenhagen, is a hotel labelled with the Nordic Swan.
We have set goals on communication to ensure that the event will be worthwhile the investment and to ensure that the event leaves a mark in the press and the public eye. We have worked in a systematic way, hoping that our planning will meet the requirements of the BS8901 British standard for sustainable management systems. We hope to receive the certificate on Friday May 21st, as part of the closing ceremony.
